SPI · About the ARDMS Exam
Has SPI gotten harder recently, based on what test-takers report?
ARDMS periodically updates the Content Outline and announces shifts in how much weight each section carries. But when you actually analyze those updates closely, the substance rarely changes — items get renamed or rearranged, but the underlying content and overall question-weight distribution stay roughly the same. This looks more like ARDMS's way of visibly showing ongoing "development" than a real shift in what's tested.
SPI · About the ARDMS Exam
Do Bioeffects (safety) and new-technology topics carry significant weight on SPI?
Bioeffects and new-technology topics don't carry much weight on SPI. There simply isn't a lot of question-worthy content in those areas, and "new technology" especially varies heavily by manufacturer — not every machine has the same new features, so it's hard to test comprehensively and consistently on it. What actually dominates the exam: fundamental ultrasound physics concepts (SPI is fundamentally a physics exam), followed closely by image optimization — adjusting settings to fix a too-dark image, poor image quality, or choppy playback — and then Doppler, which is included on every ultrasound machine and heavily emphasized because of how central it is to ultrasound imaging.
